Five Boro Electrical Contractors Association was formed in 1957. This association consists of over 250 independent, licensed electrical contractors performing work throughout the five boros of New York City. Through this association, contractors are kept informed of the important issues facing their business and the ever changing codes and details from the public utilities and NYC Dept. of Buildings. The contractors who make up this association perform all facets of work in the electrical contracting industry.

WHAT IS THE FIVE BORO ELECTRICAL
CONTRACTORS ASSOCIATION?

The Five Boro Electrical Contractors Association was formed in 1957 by a small group of licensed electrical contractors solely for the purpose of bringing a lawsuit against the City of New York in regard to fees being constantly increased for the renewal of the license. After winning this case, they decided to try to increase the group's membership to better inform licensed contractors on new ideas, problems arising in the industry, etc., and as they say, "the rest is history."

Today, Five Boro is over 250 strong and still growing. It is a viable voice in the industry -- a voice recognized by the NYC Dept. Buildings - Electrical Div., Con Edison, LIPA, and the New York Board of Fire Underwriters, among others -- to bring information to its members, taking on individual problems, and trying to resolve them.

In its 51 years of existence, it has become one of the most recognized associations in the city of New York, garnering acceptance and respectful attention by the mere mention of its name.

Welcome to the Five Boro Web Site

As president of the largest electrical contractors association in New York City, I am always amazed at the talent, dedication and devotion electrical contractors have for their industry. Nowhere is it more evident then in the 5 Boro Electrical Contractors Association. Founded over 50 years ago we are leaders in the electrical industry in the largest city in the world. With that comes responsibility to our members, to our clients and the electrical contracting industry to run our organization to meet the highest standards.

Some of the issues that we face at this time are different then our forefathers. We face a technology boom the likes the world has not witnessed. Because NYC is at the forefront of the technological market nowhere is this advancement more evident then in what the electrical contractor sees in his work day.

This is why I am making my addenda for my first year simple. I want to see 5 Boro train, teach, advise and lead in getting the information to our members. In addition, we have to work with the Department of Buildings as part of a team that determines what is best for the public safety and what benefits the electrical contractor. Code changes and low voltage issues are at the top of my list. 5 Boro must make their voice heard on these important issues.

As a member of 5 Boro you are part of something great. Tradition, education, fellowship and comradere automatically come with a membership.

In closing, we have many battles to face, and with your support each one will be won. More importantly, being a part of 5 Boro means you are a part of something important. At the end of the day 5 Boro makes your life as an electrical contractor and a person better.

See you at a meeting……
